Three Things to Consider When Buying Castor Wheels
June 14, 2022
If you’re adding castors to a piece of furniture or a cart, you’ll want to be sure you’ve got the correct castors for the job before you start. Don’t get the cheapest castors you can find, just to find out later that they’re hurting your floor or that they wear out or fail when you need them the most. When it comes to choosing the appropriate castors, what questions should you ask yourself? The following are a few things to keep in mind when selecting a castor:
Ability to Roll Effectively
Don’t forget to select the largest wheel that your application will allow. The amount of effort necessary to transfer a load is not taken into account in load capacity ratings. It’s difficult to roll on conventional moulded rubber wheels, which are commonly used. To move the load on soft rubber wheels manually, we recommend keeping the weight to no more than half of the rated capacity. Unless the weight capacity of the rubber tyre is exceeded, polyurethane and “hard tread” wheels are difficult to roll, even on smooth floors. When fully laden, they are a bit of a challenge to roll. When fully loaded, rubber wheels can be pushed by hand. Because these wheels are approved for weights up to their maximum capacity, you don’t have to sacrifice the benefits of resilience (floor and cargo protection) to receive the benefits of rollability.
Ergonomics and Security
The high drawbar pull or resistance of manual machinery causes damage and health problems. Choose castor wheels that minimise harm and health concerns from excessive strain. When choosing a wheel or castor, consider employee safety. A person must move equipment manually. Larger wheels roll easier. Tire design and composition affect employee performance and health.
Ergonomic castor wheels decrease job injuries. They reduce absenteeism and boost worker productivity. Ergonomic elements alleviate stress and strain so employees may work comfortably without damage. Precision swivel castor wheels are one example. This innovation makes swivel castors easier to turn under load, decreases starting effort and fatigue, and increases output consistency. Safety and ergonomics prevent accident-related downtime so it’s very important.
Efficiency and Productivity
A castor wheel can have a significant impact on an item’s production and efficiency. To ensure optimal productivity, minimise long-term expenditures, and get the most out of your investment, you need to choose the right castor wheel. The core of any rolling machine is its wheels. As a result, bearings influence production. Using low-quality tyres and bearings for heavy weights or powered operation is a waste of time and money. When they’re not being used, they lead to expensive repairs, out-of-service equipment, and the need for numerous people to move things.
